In 1839 Emmanuel Masters Murphy was the only member of the Church in South Carolina, but his efforts and faith achieved to convince others to join the Church. Currently the temple of Columbia, South Carolina is the temple 62nd of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Alma’s LDS Tours invites you to know some facts about this house of the Lord.
The desire to involve others in the Mormon faith motivated the work of Emmanuel Masters Murphy most of his life, which led him to become a great leader of the church. In South Carolina, this work was reflected only until 1917, when the first branch was organized with forty members. The following years were of great growth and prosperity.
In 1999, with 26,000 members the Temple was dedicated in Columbia. The building is located in a residential neighborhood and is surrounded by natural pine and oak trees. The exterior walls are finished with gray granite with stained glass. Temple measures a total 10,700 square feet, has two ordinance rooms and two sealing rooms. Feel free to come to visit it.
