First records of church history in Virginia are thanks to Jedediah M.Grant , a brave missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who was very demanded in the state because of his dedication to preach the gospel. He received many invitations in the 1840s to teach the people about the restoration. In return, as a way of thank-offering, his listeners gave him things like clothing, a horse and fund to make sure he can assist his future preaching assignment.
Few years later, another missionary arrived in the area, his name was R.H. Kinnamon who traveled to nine counties and baptized more than a hundred of people. When church president Joseph Smith was killed my mobs, membership in Virginia was near to 350, and many of these early members migrated west.
Today Virgina has more than 92,000 members, two missions, 196 congregations and 35 family history centers.
